Condolences are pouring out to Eminem and his family following the death of his father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr.
Bruce is Eminem‘s biological father, and he frequently rapped about him in his songs for abandoning him when he was a child. TMZ reported that he died this week at his home near Fort Wayne, Indiana. Sources close to the family says that he died from a possible heart attack. Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, has not yet reacted to the death of his father.
The rap icon never hides his disdain for his old man as evident in tracks like “My Name Is” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” Eminem is also not fond of his mother Debbie who previously revealed that she got married to Bruce when she was 15 years old. He was 22 at the time, and they had one child together, who would later become a worldwide mega rap star. The couple split up not long after their wedding, and he moved to California where he had two more kids. She settled with her baby boy in Detroit with her family.
Em previously detailed how he would write letters to his father as a child, and they would always come back as “return to sender.” He said it was devastating and that Bruce would call other family members to check on him but would never talk to him. Bruce published a letter in a newspaper in 2001 explaining his side of the story.
It’s unclear if Eminem and his father Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. ever got a chance to reconcile.
