Nelly has quietly settled his sexual assault lawsuit, and now the case has been dropped.
A sexual assault case against rapper Nelly has been dropped after he and his accuser quietly reached a settlement outside the courts. The new development comes months after the Washington State DA opted not to file charges against the rap icon because his accuser refused to cooperate. The St. Lois rapper maintained his innocence the whole time.
His accuser, a 21-year-old female, filed a police report claiming that Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. raped her on his tour bus while he was in the state for a show. Her attorney, Kathy Koehler, says her client stopped cooperating with authorities because she cannot withstand the public scrutiny surrounding the case because Nelly is a celebrity.
Even though prosecutors declined to press charges, the female accuser proceeded to file a lawsuit against the hip-hop legend for sexual assault and defamation. All of that is now water under the bridge, and no money changed hands according to Variety. “Both parties agreed to drop the lawsuit. No settlement or money changed hands,” said attorney Scott Rosenblum.
