Beenie Man is currently mourning the death of his grandmother.
The dancehall legend confirmed with Urban Islandz the passing of his grandmother Ms. Doris Ferguson Stewart more affectionately known as ‘Dar Dar’, who passed away at age 91, at her home in Cattawood, Shoeberry District, St. Elizabeth. Beenie says he is saddened by her passing because he was very close to her and she means the world to him.
Beenie Man has been very busy since the start of the year touring and recording new music. Just last week he shoot the video for his “Lifestyle” single in Kingston. Since the passing of his grandmother, the “Girl Dem Sugar” deejay has trimmed down his schedule significantly as his family mourns the passing of their relative. He is also asking fans and the media to respect his privacy during this time.
During a recent interview, Beenie Man says he records five songs per week and is one of the hardest working artists in dancehall despite being in the business for over three decades.
R.I.P. Ms. Dar Dar.
