Janelle Monae debuts her new videos “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane” and fans are calling it iconic.
The R&B songstress gave us a raw, unfiltered and unapologetic visual for an equally raw single off her upcoming album Dirty Computer. Her third LP is due on April 27. In the visuals for the cut from the project, Janelle Monae steps outside of her affinity for formal attire revealing a saucy outgoing side of her that we’ve never really experienced before.
Despite stepping out of the personality we’ve grown used to over the years, Monae still leaves us with the lingering feeling of there is more and we want it badly. It’s like she just hit us with a curve ball leaving our bottom jaw on the floor then came right back with a second video “Django Jane.”
The cut starts out with her walking into a club with her girl while another version of herself start performing and got everyone in the groove. Last week, Janelle Monae teased us with the trailer for her new project, and now we get an idea of what’s to come with the first two singles and visuals “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane.”
The cuts were directed by Alan Ferguson and feature an 80s style yet modern funk feel. Some fans are already making some comparison to the hugely successful Black Panther movie. “I know I’m not the only person putting together a Black Panther sequel in my mind like I’m on the production team. Can Janelle Monae be worked in there somewhere as a Black American revolutionary who joins forces w/ Nakia & T’Challa & has a musical interlude for some reason?” Bree wrote.
Prince would certainly be proud of Janelle Monae who is right at this moment the epitome of black girl magic. Watch the music video for “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane” below.
