SoundCloud rapper Lil Peep has reportedly died from a drug overdose, he was 21 years old at the time of his death.
The news came as a shock to many hip hop fans who have been following his music on SoundCloud over the past year. Sources say that the Long Island rapper died on Wednesday night just before his concert in Tucson Arizona. The concert was abruptly canceled late last night after reports surfaced that he overdosed on drugs that turned out to be fake Xanax pills that were laced with Fentanyl.
Lil Peep reported took the drug on his tour bus where someone found him passed out. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was first listed in critical condition before news broke that he died. According to one person on social media who was on the scene, the rapper’s best friend Bexxy was standing outside the venue crying uncontrollably while yelling that he doesn’t want to be alive. He also told fans on Twitter that police have cautioned off the tour bus and treating it like a crime scene and fire and ambulance was on the scene as well.
Lil Peep, whose real name is Gustav Åhr, is known for singles like “Benz Truck,” “We Think Too Much,” “The Way I See Things,” “White Wine,” and “Star Shopping.” He is well known for mixing elements of rock with rap music. Some of his fans are also saying that he has been battling depression for quite some time and that may have contributed to his death. Peep released his first mixtape, Lil Peep Part One, in 2015 and in that same year he released two other mixtapes, Feelz and Live Forever.
In 2016 he continues to drop more mixtapes, releasing Crybaby in June and then three months later he released Hellboy. In August of this year, he released his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1, which give rise to the singles “Benz Truck” and “Awful Things” featuring Lil Tracy. He was touring the U.S. to promote the album at the time of his death.
Rest in peace Lil Peep.
