Rihanna is being recognized for her philanthropic work across the globe.
The Bajan pop superstar was named Harvard University’s Humanitarian of the Year for 2017. She will accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award during a ceremony on February 28 at the Sanders Theatre. Rihanna has been building her reputation of giving back over the last couple of years starting with the launch of her Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012 where she provide scholarship program for students in the U.S. and across the Caribbean.
Rihanna has charitably built a state-of-the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director. “She has also created the Clara Lionel Foundation Scholarship for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries, and supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”
Every year the prestigious university awarded public figures who made an impact on people’s lives through giving back. The award is in honor of the late Rev. Professor Peter J. Gomez.
