Alkaline took home three awards at last weekend’s Youth View Awards, two less than his dancehall rival Vybz Kartel, and his fans are not happy.
The “Extra Lesson” deejay went into the 2017 YVA with the most nominations, a total of 10, while Vybz Kartel earned 8 nods. At the end of the award ceremony at the National Indoor Sports Arena in Kingston on Saturday night, Vybz Kartel took home five trophies, while Alkaline took home three.
Vendetta fans are furious with the YVA saying their deejay should have won more awards. “Alkaline dominated the charts last year way more than Kartel and won less awards YVA is a big joke,” one fan wrote on Twitter. One fan even went as far as to call the YVA the Youth Kartel Awards. We heard similar complains from reggae singer Nesbeth who stormed out of the awards on Saturday after loosing the Favorite Local Chart Topping Song trophy to Vybz Kartel. The Gaza Boss fans are pushing back saying that their fans voted and that’s why their artist won.
Both Alkaline and Vybz Kartel had a big year last year. The two deejays dominated the airwaves and the charts, but depending on who you asked, some fans will say Gaza while other will say Vendetta. Perhaps its time that these two artists settled their rivalry in the studio.
alka did not dominate the chart more tho lmao vendetta fans been told the truth along time n now they mad when they see the proof, just get over that kartel run it..
