Mighty Crown “The Far East Rulers” have no intentions of slowing down! And their recent rock solid performance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York during the Caribbean Fever Music Festival ever solidifies this theory. A significant milestone for Mighty Crown and sound system culture, this performance marks the first time a big league sound touched down on the coveted Barclays stage. Mighty Crown had the crowd of several thousand concertgoers moving to diverse selections of Caribbean music in between artist sets. Many patrons in attendance have agreed that Mighty Crown’s performance will be remembered for years to come. Once Crown arrived, it was “pandemonium,” fans have quipped. Mighty Crown’s landmark stint at the Barclays was on the heels of a dynamic, live on air dub session and up-close-and-personal interview with radio host and show promoter Dahved Levy on New York’s WBLS, 107.5 radio station the night before.
According to the official press release of the Caribbean Fever Music Festival, “The party vibe was preserved in between acts as the promoters deployed the world’s (number one) sound system, Mighty Crown, to keep the arena rocking and they did just that, juggling in between acts to the delight of the fans. It was indeed a perfect blend of Dancehall, Reggae and Soca — a true Caribbean party.”
Way before Mighty Crown graced the stage, the evening started on an exceptional note, as the business-savvy sound system was honored before scores of luminaries and peers for their contributions to Caribbean music, namely the sub-genre of sound system and dancehall culture. Filled with joy, hours before their landmark performance, Crown graciously accepted their award in the Barclays’ Calvin Klein theater.
According to Mighty Crown’s Co-Founder Masta Simon, “This honor is extremely special to us because it signifies that our fan base has extended from Jamaica to the wider Caribbean community.”
“It has always been a goal of Irish and Chin to ensure that the Mighty Crown brand continues to grow throughout the Caribbean and the rest of the world. Over the years, Mighty Crown has been working extremely hard, and this award proves that their hard work is being recognized,” says Garfield “Chin” Bourne of Irish and Chin, Mighty Crown’s manager.
Mighty Crown has lots in store for 2013 on many levels, as the sound is already negotiating high profile performances and appearances, new business deals and a highly anticipated Spring tour. Fans can continue to expect greatness form Mighty Crown, as they continue to do what they love, while exposing Sound System and Dancehall culture to the world — through their various efforts.
Mighty Crown is proudly celebrating 21 years in the business. Rising to the occasion as the first sound system to have international, high profile endorsement deals, Mighty Crown has opened the door for their peers. As a powerhouse brand, Mighty Crown has impressively joined forces with corporate giants such as Nike (yielding 3 deals and 5 sneakers), Clae, Clarks, Stussy and New Era, just to name a few over the years.
Additionally, Mighty Crown runs an empire, which also includes the Nine Rulaz clothing line, Lifestyle Records (home to huge Japanese acts Guan Chai and Fireball), Strive magazine & more! “The Far East Rulers” were plucked from obscurity in 1999 by Caribbean entertainment gurus Irish and Chin, after winning World Clash, a “big league” DJ competition mostly dominated by Jamaican sounds.
