Reggae singer Teddy Brown was arrested earlier this week in New Jersey for being in the United States illegally.
According to the Associated Press, Brown was taken into custody by United States immigration officers, who arrested him at his home in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Immigration officers identified the singer as 52 year-old Tedane Anthony Kerr, who also goes by the name Anthony Butley, but sings under the stage name Teddy Brown.
Kerr entered the US in 1977 from Jamaica as a lawful permanent resident but was ordered removed in 1997 after a conviction for aggravated assault, according the official reports.
Teddy Brown has released one album on the Fugitive Entertainment Label and has done shows in Philadelphia, and the Tri-State Area.
Reps for the singer says a statement is forthcoming.
