Shaggy Speaks “No Manager Can’t Say They Build Any Artist” [VIDEO]

There has been a row between managers and artists in dancehall since Busy Signal abruptly cut ties with his longtime manager Shane Brown last month.

Shaggy, who also parted ways with his longtime manager Robert Livingston in 2011, says no manager should ever say they built an artist.

“No manager can sit there and say the built an artist, let me clear that up,” Shaggy told Anthony Miller of ER. “No manager can say they build anybody, and if that’s case then make another me. Jay-Z said that have they built him… when Dame Dash was saying that yes I made him, Jay-Z said let me see you make another me. It takes a team and it’s a team effort from everybody. The artists was very instrumental and I think people take that for granted.”

Shaggy recently launched his own label Ranch Entertainment that currently manages his career and a few other artists.

Shaggy is perhaps dancehall’s most commercially successful artist of all time, with more than 20 million albums sold worldwide.

In 2010, Urban Islandz name Shaggy the richest reggae artist alive.
