Ziggy Marley is spearheading a new Bob Marley biopic with Paramount Pictures.
There is a new Bob Marley film in the making and his eldest son is at the helm of it which means that this project will likely see the light of day, unlike the many previous biopics were undertaken by various individuals. Bob is one of the most legendary names in all of music’s history, despite his passing at an early age of 36. Over the years, there have been several films on the life of the late reggae legend, but this one could be the biggest effort undertaken by the Marley family.
Deadline has reported that Ziggy Marley signed a deal with Paramount Pictures recently to develop a new Bob Marley biopic. The film is already in development and will cover the life and career of the reggae superstar.
Bob Marley died in 1981 from cancer at the age of 36, but his musical legacy and philosophy lived on for decades after his death. Bob’s cultural impact on the world earned him the title of Artist of the Century and in 1999, Time Magazine named his album Exodus the Album of the Century.
Like Bob Marley, his children have been hugely successful musicians in their own rights. Last year, Ziggy Marley won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album and this year his younger brother Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley won the reggae Grammy for his album Stony Hill.
