The Game says his focus now is fatherhood while addressing his constant absence from conversations around West Coast Hip-Hop.

While The Documentary rapper is disappointed that he is often overlooked when compared to his peers like Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, YG, and Nipsey Hussle, he admitted that his priorities now are bigger than rap. The Game sat down for an interview recently where he grew emotional while opening up about the topic and finding solace in fatherhood after welcoming a newborn in November.

“It’s easy for me to give my flowers to Kendrick, and YG, and Ice Cube, and say I love and miss Nip [Nipsey Hussle] and do all of that,” the Los Angeles rapper said. “And I get left out of all the conversations, I get left off the murals, I don’t give a f–k about none of that. I literally am just trying to stay alive to see my daughter walk down the aisle, and that’s it. My purpose is only to be a father.”

The Game grew a bit emotional while speaking about his kids more so than his place in hip-hop. The “How We Do” rapper is now a father of five after welcoming a baby boy with Evelyn Lozada’s daughter Shaniece Hairston. The 45-year-old rapper admitted that his approach to parenting now is much more grounded and mature compared to when he was younger and had his children, who are now teenagers and young adults.

“I’m 44. When my new child is 21, I’ll be 65, right?” he said in an interview with TSR earlier this year. “And that seems kinda old, until you start thinking about who’s 65 now. It’s going to be a different parenting experience than when I was young. When I was young, I was still hardheaded, still in the streets…I don’t know how I even made it to this point in my life doing the things that I was doing, but I made it. My kids are all fine, smart, straight A students and good, so it’ll just be interesting to parent at this age.”

The Game is a West Coast legend in his own right after making his rap debut in 2002 under the G-Unit umbrella. After releasing his independent project, Untold Story, in 2004, The Game released his major label debut album, The Documentary, 2005, under Aftermath Entertainment, G-Unit Records, and Interscope Records. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with 586,000 units sold in the first week. The album has since been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. The West Coast rapper has since released nine studio albums over the two decades since his debut.
