Dancehall veteran Flippa Mafia returns to music with a new song, “Wah Gwaan Bout Yah Man.”
Flippa Mafia, also known as Flippa Moggela, was released from prison in 2022 after serving nine years. The dancehall deejay, real name Andrew Davis, was released on parole well before completing his 25-year sentence for drug trafficking. Flippa has been keeping a low profile since his release while bonding with his children, whom he was away from for almost a decade.
The deejay is back on the airwaves with new music and also sat down for a candid interview with Winford Williams on OnStage. The song “Wah Gwaan Bout Yah Man” was released with an accompanying visual on Friday. Flippa Mafia took jabs at the people he called “Bruck Dons” for wearing fake Gucci gear and driving Mercedes-Benz with their gas tank on empty.
“Dem really bruk me Don / Nuff man a moggel in a fake name brand / If lightning strike you have nuff dead man / Fake watch fake chain yow a pure bruk Don,” he spits over a beat produced by DJ Mac. The video saw Flippa Mafia driving his Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV while stunting with stacks of cash and refreshments.
Flippa Mafia shared in his new interview with Winford that prison taught him some lessons that changed his life. The deejay says his incarceration helped him to realize the little things in life that are more meaningful. “That day till now change mi life because it make mi a more humble person. And mek me look pan life different and learn fi appreciate simple tings little tings weh wi neva use to appreciate,” he said.
The “Unfinished House” deejay added, “Me think it turn out fi di best fi mi because so many people die during that time frame. And mi feel like di way mi did a guh hard, di way mi did a floss, and di way mi did a behave like a lot a people did jealous and mi feel like mi would a lose mi life.”
Flippa admitted that prison might’ve saved his life because he was surrounded by a lot of jealous individuals prior to his incarceration. “People instigate and involved me in a fi them situation,” he said. “Never had anything to do with me… Me think it turned out for the best for me because so many people died during that time frame and me feel like the way me did a go hard, the way me did a floss, and the way me did a behave like a lot of people did jealous and me feel like me woulda lose me life. So prison saved me in a many many ways.”
Flippa Mafia also shared his journey in fatherhood and reintegrating into family life after his release from prison. He shared that he is in a great place right now, and his upcoming music will reflect that.
