Cam’ron recalls a “weird” text message he received from Jay-Z during a conversation they had after the historic B-sides concert.
In April 2019, the Dipset and Jay-Z reunited on stage, sending fans into a frenzy at the Roc Nation founder’s B-Side at the Webster Hall in New York City. The historic event saw performances from Nas, Jim Jones, Cam’ron, and disc jockey Young Guru. Hov and Cam performed their classic single with Juelz Santana, “Welcome To New York,” at the event.
Killa Cam shared the story on his YouTube show Talk With Flee, shedding light on what Jay-Z told him after the show that left him surprised and confused. “He texts me, ‘Yo, that was dope last night,'” Cam said. The Dipset rapper replied, “‘That was really dope, I appreciate you guys putting this sh– to bed.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, man. See how much sh– we can do when n—-s stop acting like there’s fake beef out here. That sh– slows sh– down.’”
Cam’ron continued, “I didn’t know how to take that. I didn’t know what he meant when he text that. I replied, ‘Well, no matter what, you, Dame and Biggs gave me the opportunity to feed my family legally, so I don’t have no problem with it.’ But inside, I’m like, ‘Why would he even text that?’ I don’t know. Even to this day, I don’t have no problem but I thought that was weird.”
Speaking on his current relationship with Jay-Z, the New York legend says he has no issues with Hov, but they haven’t spoken since that 2019 exchange. He added that he respects Jay-Z’s hustle and his music but is quite content if they never talk to each other again. Cam’ron admitted that he doesn’t know if there ever will be a new collaboration between himself and Jay-Z because neither of them is doing music full-time at the moment.
Cam and Hov previously traded subliminal shots at each other in the years leading up to the B-Side concert. On his 2006 song “You Gotta Love It,” Cam’ron accused Jay-Z of stealing lyrics from The Notorious B.I.G., saying his publishing should go the Biggie Smalls’ mother. Hov fired back at him on the single “Pound Cake” with Drake in 2013.
