Major Lazer Samples Yellowman In New Vybz Kartel Collab “Nobody Move”

Vybz Kartel and Sidem Ozturk

Major Lazer drops a surprise new song “Nobody Move” with Vybz Kartel ahead of the reissue of their classic album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, due on November 15.

The group is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the landmark album with a new 15th Anniversary Edition on vinyl and digital. The new edition will have four bonus songs including “Nobody Move” featuring Vybz Kartel, who was released from prison in July after thirteen years. There are also other previously unreleased tracks such as “Where’s The Daddy?” with M.I.A. and “Pon de Streets” instrumental. There is also a re-release of the single “Zumbie.”

Major Lazer debut “Nobody Move” with an animated video on Friday, a signal they’re going back to their roots. The album cover also features a new cartoon artwork from Ferry Gouw, the mastermind behind the incredible Major Lazer animated characters. The grainy haunting clip resembles cartoons from the 1980s and stars the infamous zombie/vampire-fighting Jamaican commando who has a laser gun on his right hand.

The song samples Yellowman’s 1984 classic “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt” and features a classic dancehall beat. The song was featured on the dancehall legend’s 1992 album, Total Recall 3.

“‘Nobody Move’ is a long-lost gem newly unearthed from the Major Lazer vault, so I wanted the video to feel like a newly found VHS tape of an obscure ’80s cartoon T.V. show,” Ferry Gouw says in a statement. “The tape feels like someone has compiled their favorite moments from the show, a ‘Best Of’ of sorts, except these were recorded over footage of home videos and other T.V. shows and adverts. This video was also an homage to my very first video for Major Lazer for ‘Hold The Line,’ except this time I didn’t animate it on tracing paper but worked with the brilliant Andy Baker Studio to bring it to life.”
