Popcaan and Shatta Wale are calling out wayward Ghana bloggers who have misconstrued a tweet Popcaan sent to Shatta Wale to make it seem like the OVO superstar begged Wale for a collaboration.
On Tuesday, both Wale and Popcaan reacted to the blog posts, which said, “Popcaan begs Shatta Wale for a collaboration,” something that is untrue, which seems to have irked both men. Shatta Wale is among the biggest dancehall names coming out of Ghana and has a cult-like following due to the tension created with followers from another dancehall artiste- Stonebwoy. It’s as contentious as the Vybz Kartel vs Mavado strife, but both men have maintained that they are not tolerating violence. Their fans, however, tow a fine line as they support their respective artists.
However, Wale’s fans can be exuberant as they create stories and headlines to make the artiste appear to be bigger and in-demand than he actually is. Popcaan for sure isn’t taken with the idea that he is begging anyone for anything.
On March 23, Popcaan tweeted to Shatta Wale, “@shattawalegh drop a calab or no? Akwaba” with the laughing emoji, to which Wale replied “mi baan ready mi g” with several emojis of the Jamaican and Ghana flag and the hashtags #Unruly for Popcaan’s slogan and #SM 4 LYF which is Shatta Movement for Life.
Fans of Wale reacted to the news, but many misconstrued the banter. One person commented, “Popcaan calling Shatta Wale for a collabo??? That’s some legendary sh*t!!”

While Shatta Wale has received massive success for his music, featuring as the lead artiste on the Contractor Produced “Tropical Cruises to Jamaica album” and also in Beyonce’s “Black is King”, Popcaan is a bigger artiste and has more international collaborations with the likes of one of Hip Hop’s greatest rappers – Drake, more international attention and awards than Wale. He also has more dancehall hits, understandably so since he is Wale’s senior in the tough business and being a protégé of the Worl’ Boss himself Vybz Kartel, Popcaan has shown resilience and talent as he delivers hits after hits.
Bloggers in Ghana were quickly checked by Popcaan for the misleading clickbait headlines. One of the headlines said, “Shatta Wale unwinds in Miami amids Popcaan Collabo request,” to which the “Relevant” artiste said, “N***a I didn’t request anything get your facts straight.”

Meanwhile, fans of both artists urged them to collaborate on new music. “Unruly don’t mind them the hate shatta so they tryna cause confusion don’t pay them attention,” one person said.
Another said, “nuh mind Ghana Bloggers, please work with @shattawalegh and dat a go bring real unity inna music.”
A humbled Shatta Wale also addressed the commotion and said, “so when will we learn Ghana.. How can you say this to a world star. You won’t even say “thank you Popcaan for giving Shatta Wale a chance to shine” or something better for the world to see that another superstar wants to project your own brother?”

He also apologized to Popcaan on behalf of the bloggers, “sorry Unruly boss for all this.”
Shatta Wale has been slowly growing in reputation as a force to be reckoned with in Ghana, and he has set his eyes on working with Jamaica’s best to create authentic dancehall sounds. His song “Dream” on the Tropical Cruises to Jamaica album has been one of the longest-standing on the Billboard Reggae album list- even as the album remains among the top 10 most streamed albums since dropping in early 2020.
