DaBaby Performs “Bop” and “Kirk” On SNL: Watch It

On Saturday night, hip-hop sensation DaBaby rocked the audience at SNL with a powerful performance.

This week, the Charlotte rapper appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 class of 2020 list, and his performance was an indication of the greatness to come. SNL has previously graced the likes of Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, Chance the Rapper, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Drake, just to name a few. Going by the viral reaction online, he came, performed, and conquered. DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, marked his first Saturday Night Live appearance on a segment run by Hustlers star Jennifer Lopez.

The “Suge” artist started with a performance of “Bop” alongside Jabbawockeez. Rocking the stage with a Charlotte Jersey alongside the Kirk chain was the least he could do. Two minutes into the three-minute performance, Jabbawockeez entered the stage in their signature masks. SNL trends on twitter were lit, with some pointing out how the performance was innovative, funny, and well-rehearsed, unlike others where the artists slur words and bark against pre-recorded vocals.

The Interscope rappers’ schedule has had a handful this week. He has been on tour with Stunna 4 Vegas across the country. On Thursday, he almost disappointed his hometown fans by failing to make an appearance at the Power98 Winter Block Party alongside Fetty Wap and Megan Thee Stallion. In classic DaBaby fashion, he did his performance over his iPhone. He took to Instagram handle to explain that he was experiencing unavoidable jet trouble. The explanation was accompanied by an apology, after which he rapped his set while on FaceTime.

Formerly known as Baby Jesus, DaBaby can consider 2019 a blessing, given multiple Grammy nods and delivering two successful projects, Baby on Baby, his debut, and the chart-smashing Kirk. Going by the tour dates, DaBaby will be performing at the Budweiser stage in Toronto this Tuesday.
