Tech 9’s death has been ruled a suicide by the Coroner’s Office.
The Philadelphia battle rapper, whose real name is Akhiym Mickens, committed suicide on March 24, a day before he was supposed to get arraign on child pornography charges, Philly Mag reported. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has since revealed that the 32-year-old rapper died from suicide. The hip hop community had suspected that was the case all along but coming from the Coroner’s Office makes it conclusive.
The official cause of death is an overdose from diphenhydramine, an antihistamine. The meds are primarily used to treat allergic reactions. Tech 9 was found unresponsive on March 24 and rushed to the Holy Redeemer Hospital on the outskirt of Philadelphia where he was pronounced dead.
Tech 9 was scheduled to be arraigned on child pornography charges on March 25 in Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas. He was also charged with corruption of minors, indecent exposure, and indecent assault.
9 was also arrested in January of this year for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter.
