Popcaan wants to see more unity in dancehall amidst the release of his hugely successful new album Forever.

If you haven’t yet heard Popcaan new album, then you’re missing out because it’s one of the best dancehall projects released in the past few years. Forever is set to be debut at the top of the Billboard Reggae Chart this week following a strong debut. Poppy did an interview with Winford Williams last week following his set at Reggae Sumfest where he spoke about the global impact of the album and calls for unity among dancehall artists.

“For now its UK and Canada because you know I’ve never been to America until further notice,” Popcaan said when asked where in the world his music is most popular. “Like now it’s UK really like them love my music differently, like old and young. I am being played on some different radio stations and me really appreciate it.”

“Me want the youths them to just use this as an example and don’t bother with the hype and hype up themselves before time you see me,” Popcaan added. “Because music is way bigger than people think, it’s not about hype and ego, it’s about uniting and making the music go further. The only thing that’s mashing up out music now is lack of unity. As a artist get three songs or four songs him feel like him bigger than Bounty Killer and Beenie. Remember you have to always show respect.”

Popcaan also called out his dancehall comrades for not showing his album more love even after getting a lot of respect from the hip-hop community. “The hip-hop industry is not like that, them show love to each other,” the deejay added. “Me see people from overseas a post my album cover more than all dancehall artists. Them thing there stupid.”

Popcaan’s new album Forever is now available across all streaming platforms.
