Ninjaman is currently hospitalized after falling sick in jail.
The dancehall legend was rushed to the hospital early Friday morning after he started complaining about feeling chest pain. He was due in court today for his ongoing murder trial in the Home Circuit Court. The trial went on despite his absence as he gets treatment for an unknown illness. Sources told Urban Islandz that he is in good spirit despite his illness.
“The artist [Ninjaman] is in good spirit and was even joking with the police officers who escorted him to the hospital,” sources told us. “He started complaining about feeling some chest pain from last night and early this morning he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. They are currently running some tests on him to find out what’s wrong.”
Other sources told us that his illness is serious enough for doctors to admit him under close observation. Ninjaman is currently fighting for his life in the courts after a judge ordered him to stand trial for a near decade-old murder charge. The dancehall icon, his son Janiel Ballentine, and another man, Dennis Clayton, are on trial for the murder of Ricardo Johnson, aka Trooper, who was shot and killed in Kingston 11 in March 2009.
The highly publicised trial has seen 17 trial delays and 23 mentions over the past 8 years until a judge finally had enough and ordered the trial to get underway. Ninjaman was also remanded in custody pending the outcome of the case. He faces life imprisonment if convicted of the murder.
