Alkaline and Popcaan Head To Head For Another MOBO Award

Dancehall stars Alkaline and Popcaan are once again going head to head for another reggae MOBO Award.

The the two dancehall stars are among three other local acts vying for the Best Reggae Act award 22nd Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards. The award ceremony will be held in Leeds, England on November 29 and as per usual, the reggae category is getting a lot of attention. This year it’s particularly interesting since this is the third straight year that Popcaan is being nominated in the category and he already won for the last two years. If he wins next month, he would create history for winning the award three years straight.

The other acts nominated in the category are Aidonia, Chronixx, and Damian “Jr Gong” Marley who have all had a phenomenal year in reggae/dancehall. This is the second nomination for Aidonia for a MOBO Award. The 4th Genna deejay has been having a great year with a number of big hits including “Banga” and “Yeah Yea.”

“2017 has been a great year so far,” Aidonia said in a statement. “It’s a joy to see that all the work we have been putting in over the years, not just this year, is slowly paying off. We give thanks for the recognition and want to say respect the MOBO’s, the fans and everybody that played a part in making this happen.”

Chronixx debut album Chronology debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae chart earlier this year. The project spawned a number of hits like “Majesty,” “Likes,” and “Skankin Sweet.” The 25-year-old reggae singer is among the favorites to take home the MOBO award this year. Reggae/Dancehall veteran Damian Marley is also a hit favorite to win the award with his new album Stony Hill currently doing very well. This is his sixth MOBO nomination.
