Alkaline became the second dancehall artist to be featured on the series “Before They Were Famous.”
Earlier this month Vybz Kartel became the first dancehall star to be featured on the hit show hosted by Michael McCrudden. After the Vybz Kartel episode went viral, Alkaline’s Vendetta fans requested that McCrudden do an episode on their favorite artist. Both Kartel and Alkaline are the two top artists in dancehall currently and the rivalry between the two deejays just keeps growing as evident in both getting featured on this show. Now it only makes sense that Mavado, who is also another top act, get featured on “Before They Were Famous.”
In the seven minute clip, we learned that Alkaline, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, was born in Kingston in 1993 at the Victoria Jubilee Maternity Hospital, the same hospital that Vybz Kartel was born in. Alkaline also started gravitating towards music from a early age but was told by his mother to pursue higher education. Being the smart guy that he is, Alkaline pursued both and that decision paid off big time.
