The OVO singer sampled the dancehall hitmaker’s 2011 single “Girl You Too Bad” for the catchy single “Not Nice” off his latest album PartyNextDoor 3, released last year. The the Dre Skull-produced single is now sitting comfortably at No. 83 on the Hot 100 chart and is expecting to climb with the song’s growing popularity.
The last time that Vybz Kartel saw Billboard Hot 100 success was back in 2009 with his collaborative single with Spice “Romping Shop.” That track helped catapult him onto the world stage but not without some controversy. R&B singer Ne-Yo’s camp fired off a legal doc to Vybz Kartel and the producer of the single NotNice, claiming that they jacked his song “Miss Independent.”
Vybz Kartel has been behind bars since 2011 and was convicted for murder and sentenced to life in 2014. Despite his incarceration, the self-proclaim Worl’Boss manages to remain among the top dancehall artists over the last few years.
