“I was told that LL was in town (New York City) and that he was interested in doing a collaboration with me, so we met up and went in the studios and began recording,” Mavado told Splash.
Mavado also opened up about the gritty lyrical content of the single.
“I sing about the streets because that’s where I came from,” Mavado said. “I have been there and I see all the positive and negatives that it entails. It’s not about me jus’ singing ’bout violence as a means of getting airplay, it’s about my encounters.”
The last time Mavado was so visible on the U.S. charts was in 2009 when his single “So Special” hit the Billboard HipHop/R&B chart.
Since signing with DJ Khaled’s We The Best Music, Mavado has done a lot of collaborations with hip hop artists including Ace Hood, Snoop Dogg, Akon, and more.
The singjay is currently pushing his career on the international market.
