Jimmy Cliff, Sean Paul Leads Reggae Grammy Nomination

Sean Paul and Jimmy Cliff are once again in the mix for another Grammy award.

The dancehall superstar and the reggae icon are among the final list of veterans within the reggae community vying the Best Reggae Album Grammy in February 2013.

Sean Paul’s latest album Tomahawk Technique saw poor US sales but was a huge hit in Europe and Asia, which is a fast growing market for reggae/dancehall music.

This is SP’s fourth nomination and could be his second Grammy. But he is up against stiff competition from Jimmy Cliff whose critically acclaimed album The Rebirth is in the mix.

Sean Paul won his first Grammy in 2004 with his multi-platinum selling album Dutty Rock. Jimmy Cliff scored his first Grammy almost 3 decades ago in 1986 with his album Cliff Hanger.

Joining Jimmy Cliff and Sean Paul are Toots and the Maytals with their album Reggae Got Soul: Unplugged on Strawberry Hill, Sly & Robbie & The Jam Masters with their album New Legend – Jamaica 50th Edition, and The Original Wailers with their album Miracle.

The 55th Grammy Awards will be held on February 10th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
