This year’s BMI Urban Awards celebrates Mariah Carey as a music icon. The awards also honors Nicki Minaj with “Song of the Year,” for “Super Bass,” while Drake cops “Songwriter of the Year.”
The 2012 BMI Urban Awards was held at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, California earlier this month. Hip-hop and R&B were at the forefront of the celebration. Along with Mariah Carey, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj, several other artists were honored.
Nas kicked off the event with by honoring the late Chris Lighty, before performing a medley of some of his classic and new singles, including “Daughter’s,” “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,”
Mariah Carey thanked her fans for their support over the years while accepting her award.
“I’m humbled, thankful and grateful,” Carey said. “Thank you.”
