Veteran rapper Missy Elliott has been missing from the Hip Hop scene for a number of years now. Until recently news surfaced that the reason could be because Elliot is battling an incurable illness called Graves’ disease since 2008.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Missy talks about the severity of the symptoms of the disease that affects her thyroid.
“I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed… I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.”
Missy says she turned to radiation therapy to improve her condition.
“I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
Missy Elliott has not release an album in over five years. Her upcoming album Block Party is schedule for release later this year.
