Urban Islandz NEWS: Just weeks after departing his former label Def Jam, L.A. Reid has hinted at plans to launch his own record label.
In an interview with radio host Angie Martinez earlier this week, Reid said he had to depart UMG.
Listen, I’m nobody’s fool, I didn’t give up my day job,” he said. “I just left, I had to leave Universal Music Group and try my hat on someplace else, that we’ll announce, well… we’ll announce that in a little while.”
Reid also disclosed that he never leave Def Jam for TV, contrary to popular belief.
“You’re not done with me yet. I’m telling you the truth. I have not been shipped off to TV land. I am a record executive and I shall be right there in your face with my records.”
Earlier this week, the 54 years old record label executive described the difficulty of leaving Def Jam. Reid helping launch acts such as Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Kanye West, Usher, Outkast and Justin Bieber.
