Usain Bolt And Asafa Powell Showdown May 26 In Rome

Double world record holder Usian Bolt and fellow Jamaican sprinter and former world record holder Asafa Powell will run head to head next month in what could be the biggest showdown of the year.

Organizers of the meet yesterday (March 23rd) confirmed Powell for the May 26th race, while Bolt was confirmed from January.

Meet organizers announced Powell’s participation Wednesday for the race on May 26. Bolt had confirmed in January. This will be the first time both top guns running since the start of the year.

Powell’s previous world record is 9.74 seconds, achieved in Rieti, Italy, in 2007. Bolt have since pass that mark three times, finally stopping the clock at 9.58 seconds at the 2009 world championship in Berlin.

Also confirmed for the meet are 800 world record holder David Rudisha of Kenya and American sprinters Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards, the world champions in the 200 and 400, respectively.
