The year is off to a good start for Young Money Femcee Nicki Minaj, as she can now boast that she is a platinum selling artist.
The RIAA has confirmed that The Barbie’s debut album Pink Friday has been certified platinum with 1 million copies sold.
Pink Friday was certified gold in December with over 500,000 units sold.
Minaj’s album sales have surpassed Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Jay-Z’s Greatest Hits which were all released on the same day.
The Trinidad-American emcee’s record moved quickly with the official recognition coming for Minaj’s debut album after only six weeks of release.
Nicki Minaj was one of only three Hip Hop artists to see their album reach platinum status last year, the other two being Eminem’s Recovery (the year’s biggest seller) and Minaj’s label-mate Drake’s Thank Me Later.
These impressive sales also catapult the pink bombshell into rarified air as far as female musical acts are concerned as she now shares 2010 platinum status with superstars such as Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.
Pink Friday now stands at #4 on the Billboard charts.
