Legendary Actress Ruby Dee Dead At 91

Legendary actress Ruby Dee is dead.

Dee is widely regarded as a pioneer for African-American women in Hollywood and is best known for her roles in Spike Lee movies “Do the Right Thing” and “Jungle Fever,” and also the 1960s classic film “A Raisin in the Sun.”

According to CNN, Ruby Dee passed away peacefully on Wednesday at her home in New Rochelle, NY surrounded by family members.

Ruby Dee also appeared in the hit movie American Gangster with Denzel Washington, where she played Frank Lucas’ mother.

She is also a screenwriter and a poet who has won an Emmy and a Grammy Award.

Ruby Dee was age 91 at the time of her death.
