Davido has a new album on the way and a new song out.
The Afrobeats star announced last weekend that his next album, 5ive, is due in February 2025. The album announcement comes at the same time that Davido dropped a new song, “Funds,” featuring ODUMODUBLVCK and Chike. The track set a new record for the biggest opening day stream for an Afrobeats collaboration on Spotify Nigeria. The three artists released an accompanying music video showing them performing at a nightclub where Davido pleased the ladies.
“‘Funds’ is a celebration of the hustle and the journey,” Davido said in a statement. “Working with Odumodublvck and Chike on this track was magic. They brought their own unique energy, and together we created something special. This song isn’t just about money – it’s about the mindset, the struggle, and the rewards that come with staying true to your grind. It’s a vibe that resonates across cultures. And with 5ive on the way, I’m bringing that same energy – African pride, global sound. We’re just getting started.”
Davido has established himself as one of Afrobeats leading ambassadors on the global stage, particularly in Europe and North America, where he is immensely popular. The “Unavailable” singer is heading into the 2025 Grammys with a nomination for Best African Music Performance for his collaboration “Sensational” with R&B singer Chris Brown.
Davido is also hot off his North American Tour in support of his 2022 album, Timeless, which created Apple Music’s history with the “most first-day streams ever for an African album on Apple Music.” The tour saw him performing in major North American cities, including Toronto, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and a massive sold-out show at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
