R. Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi is speaking out while sharing new allegations against her father in an upcoming documentary, R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey.

R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence after being convicted on multiple charges including child sexual abuse. Despite his incarceration, the R&B legend could still face potential new legal troubles as new allegations against him surfaced including from his daughter Buku Abi, who gets emotional in the trailer for an upcoming documentary as she recounts an “heartbreaking secret” that she never before shared public.

The documentary R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey is scheduled to be streamed on TVEI on October 11, 2024 and is shaping up to be a blockbuster event. In the trailer, she recounts that her father was her everything until she found out certain things about him.

“For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened,” Buku said. “I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me. I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life. Nobody wants to be the child of the father that is out here hurting women and children.”

Buku Abi, whose real name is Joanne Kelly, says she will be as honest as possible in telling her story. R. Kelly’s ex-wife Drea Kelly and their son Robert Kelly Jr. are also featured in the documentary. Drea commented on the clip stating, “What he did to me, he did to me, but you didn’t have to do it to my kids.”

In the meantime. R. Kelly is still fighting the conviction and charges against him as he is actively trying to have the guilty verdict overturned due to a loophole his attorneys are trying to exploit. The embattled R&B singer filed a petition in the United States Supreme Court in July of this year where his legal team argued that the crimes he was convicted for occured decades ago well outside of the statute of limitations.

Robert Kelly was convicted for crimes that took place in the 1990s and as a result, his legal team is arguing that the PROTECT Act shouldn’t apply to his case since that law came into effect in 2003. His Jennifer Bonjean stated that the Act doesn’t apply to her client’s case despite its expanded statute of limitation.

The US Supreme Court is expected to rule on the matter in the coming months and could pave the way for the courts to hear his appeal.
