Lizzo Names TIME Magazine’s Entertainer Of The Year, 2019

Lizzo is having one of the best years of any artist, and it’s being capped off with a huge honor for TIME Magazine.

Lizzo has become perhaps one of the most talked about artists in 2019. No matter how good, bad, or indifferent your opinion of the “Truth Hurts” songstress is, her women empowerment and self-love persona, has shot in her into the spotlight, and she’s being recognized for her talents in a major way. TIME named Lizzo 2019 Entertainer of the Year on Wednesday for its latest issue.

After leading the 2020 Grammy nominations with eight, TIME magazine said Lizzo’s impact was undeniable. “Lizzo does represent something new,” the issue read. “Her sound is relentlessly positive and impossibly catchy: bangers that synthesize pop, rap, and R&B, with hooks so sharp it feels like they’ve been in your brain forever.” Lizzo’s anthem “Truth Hurts” broke the record for longest-running No. 1 song for a female rap artist while her album Cuz I Love You has earned her tons of recognition, including Best Album at the Soul Train Awards.

The honor comes after Lizzo was trending this week for showing her bare behind wearing a cut-out T-shirt to an NBA game. She responded to the backlash saying she was going to continue to be herself, and it looks like it’s paying off. Lizzo thanked TIME on Twitter, along with a simple question for her fans: “Are you not entertained?”

Lizzo also made it onto Entertainment Weekly’s entertainers of the year list.
