ASAP Rocky Case: No Charges For Swedish Man Who Attacked Harlem Rapper

The Swedish man involved in a street brawl with ASAP Rocky and his crew will no longer face charges.

Swedish prosecutors dropped all charges against one of the men involved in the street fight that put A$AP Rocky in jail over the last several weeks, according to PageSix. One of the men, who was seen on video confronting ASAP Rocky’s bodyguard, was being held on suspicion of “abuse, assault, and attempted assault,” after Rocky’s bodyguard filed a counter-notice after the fight. Prosecutors decided Monday to drop all charges against the man, claiming that he acted in self-defense.

In a press release, Senior Public Prosecutor Daniel Suneson, who is in charge of the investigation, explains why the man has not been charged. Suneson said that after the man, whose identity was not released, was asked to leave by ASAP’s bodyguard several times and refused. The bodyguard became physical first before the headphones were thrown.

“When he refuses to leave, the other person first pushes him away and then takes a grip around the other persons neck and lifts him away a few meters. In this situation, the person throws his headphones on the notifier, and tries to hand out battles, which may be considered as right to self-defense,” he said.

Several more videos show A$AP Rocky and his crew asking the men to walk in the other direction, while telling them they didn’t want any violence to erupt. That’s before the street fight ensued.

On Friday a judge ordered that ASAP Rocky, born Rakim Meyers, remain behind bars as the investigation continued from the July 5 incident. Swedish prosecutors argued that Rocky was a flight risk and the judge denied the Harlem rapper bail.

A day before the hearing, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West allegedly solicited help from President Donald Trump and the White House on Rocky’s behalf. On Saturday, President Trump tweeted that he had just spoken to the Swedish Prime Minister and was assured that ASAP Rocky would be tweeted fairly. “Likewise, I assured him that A$AP was not a flight risk and offered to personally vouch for his bail, or an alternative,” he said before promising to continue the conversations with Sweden.
