Meek Mill and Kim Kardashian are just two of the many celebrities who shared their reactions to Cyntoia Brown getting clemency from Virginia governor Bill Haslam. Celebrities and their fans have been campaigning for years to have Brown released from prison after she was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a man who allegedly used her for sex trafficking. Meek and Kim have been using their celebrity influence to fight for justice reform and it’s been paying off.

“#cyntoiabrown granted clemency… shout out to the people that used their voice.. it really matters!” the Philly rapper wrote while Kim Kardashian tweeted, “Thank you Governor Haslam.”

Other celebs like Jada Pinkett-Smith and Lala Anthony have also shared their reactions to Cyntoia Brown getting a second chance. “This smile Beyond happy for #cyntoiabrown…OUR VOICES MATTER?? Welcome home,” Lala wrote.

“Cyntoia Brown will be freed!!!!!!! Thank you to @governorbillhaslam and everyone that fought for, shined light on, posted, signed petitions and so on… to make this happen,” Jada said on Instagram.

Cyntoia Brown released a statement thanking the people who lend their voices to her cause and Governor Haslam for giving her a second chance.

“I am thankful for all the support, prayers, and encouragement I have received,” Brown said in her statement via TMZ. “I am thankful to my lawyers and their staffs, and all the others who, for the last decade have freely given their time and expertise to help me get to this day. I love all of you and will be forever grateful. With God’s help, I am committed to live the rest of my life helping others, especially young people. My hope is to help other young girls avoid ending up where I have been.”
