Vybz Kartel is back in court today for his last appeal case management hearing ahead of his big day.

The dancehall deejay’s attorneys and the prosecution will meet with the appeal court panel of judges to go over the case one last time before proceeding with the trial set to begin on July 9th. Vybz Kartel legal team, headed by Tom Tavares-Finson, has expressed confidence going into the trial. If they managed to convinced the panel of judges that the murder case was tainted then Kartel and his three co-accused could be set free.

Vybz Kartel, whose government name is Adidja Palmer, his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, and close friends Andre St John and Kahira Jones are currently serving life for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. The four men were convicted for the crime in 2014 in what is the longest murder trial in Jamaica.

The trial was highly controversial with law enforcement authorities being accused of tampering with evidence and witness intimidation. A jury in the case was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice for allegedly trying to bribe the Jury forewoman and other members of the jury to return a guilty verdict.

Vybz Kartel and his friends have maintained their innocence.
