Ne-Yo Adds Some Dancehall To New Album “Good Man”

Ne-Yo adds some dancehall flavor to her upcoming album “Good Man.”

The R&B crooner recently dropped his new single “Push Back” featuring Stefflon Don and Bebe Rexhan. The StarGate-produced single is the first cut from the upcoming album a features a heavy dancehall sound, a reflection of what else coming on the project. StarGate is known to dabble in reggae/dancehall and has previously produced island flavored songs for the likes of Sean Paul and Rihanna.

Ne-Yo says he has always love reggae/dancehall music and previously performed in Jamaica at least twice at Reggae Sumfest and Shaggy & Friends. “I am a huge fan of reggae. I am a huge fan of dancehall and just the whole Caribbean vibe and feel,” the singer told UPROXX. “It’s always a good feeling. Always a good, warm feeling. And the music makes the ladies dance, and I love to watch women dance. Especially confident women. So that’s what this song is about.”

“It’s about confident women who get up and know how to move and have a good time,” Ne-Yo added. “I feel like this is one of those records that when you put it on your body just sort of naturally does what it is supposed to do. It’s not even like you gotta think real hard about it. Kind of a no-brainer, so to speak.”

Ne-Yo’s 2008 mega hit single “Miss Independent” beat was sampled by Vybz Kartel and Spice for their Billboard hit “Romping Shop.” The pair were sued for the unauthorized sample, but Ne-Yo said it was all done by the label and he never had a problem with the song.
