Tay-K maybe incarcerated but his music, in this case, “The Race” is still bumping.
The 17-year-old rapper released the song while he was on the run from feds after going on a crime spree. The single “The Race” is now platinum. The single went viral last summer and is showing no signs of slowing down. The track also spawned a number of remixes from rappers like Lil Yachty and Tyga. The song garnered enough buzz to prompt Tay-K’s fans and some fellow rappers to call for his release from prison via the hashtag #FreeTayK.
I should also note that Tay-K is facing some pretty serious charges including murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. Despite his lengthy rap sheet, “The Race” has now surpassed a million units in sales as of January 12th, roughly six months after its release, according to the RIAA. The viral single was recorded and the video was shot while Tay-K was on the run after escaping house arrest. He was eventually captured and placed behind bars and once fans realized his ordeal it further fuels the streaming online. The song peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Tay-K is now a platinum-selling rapper which is not bad considering he is just 17 and facing possibly decades in prison. Last year November, rumors surfaced claiming that K signed a lucrative record deal, but a rep for the rapper later dismissed the reports as bogus. Sources say, however, that a deal is currently on the table with conditions that he can beat his murder case. He is expected to go on trial for at least two capital murder charges this year and a few lesser but still serious charges.
If he is freed this year, Tay-K is lining up to be the next breakthrough young rapper. If convicted, he could be sent to prison for decades.
