Cardi B inches closer to achieving her first number one single with “Bodak Yellow” cracking the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Bodak Yellow” is already one of the hottest singles this summer and can be heard on every hip hop playlist. The female hustler’s anthem is showing no signs of slowing down and has already risen to number eight on the Hot 100 this week, up from number fourteen a week ago. What’s really driving up the numbers for Cardi B, the shared power of the single and her massive female fan base.
The former Love and Hip Hop New York star became the first female rapper to reach the top ten on the chart with their debut single since Iggy Azalea did it with “Fancy” in 2014, Billboard reported. “Bodak Yellow” is also the fastest progressing single on the chart by a female artist since Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” in 2014. So it’s safe to say that Cardi B is wing right now not just among female rappers, but also among female artists on a whole. Definitely, she is the first artist to do it this big from a transition from Love and Hip Hop into the mainstream music market.
The catchy single “Bodak Yellow” is also showing a strong presence on other charts. This week it climbs from number six to number two on the Streaming Songs chart. It also jumped from number twenty to number fifteen on the Digital Song Sales chart and holds firm at number 36 on the Radio Songs chart. Cardi B also earned herself the highest charting song as a lead female rapper since Nicki Minaj did it in 2014 with her mega hit “Anaconda.” That song peaked at number two, just one step away from number one.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will see if Cardi B can crack the number one spot.
