Mavado Calls On Jamaican Authorities To Save Dancehall

The act imposed strict noise and time constrain on Jamaica’s iconic street dance culture and other forms of entertainment on the island.

NEWS: Mavado Says RISE UP

According to Mavado, they are killing dancehall culture with the Noise Abatement Act.

“Everywhere in the world you go people know Jamaica for reggae music, sports and entertainment,” Mavado told Irie FM. “When you make dancehall suffer you make the youths that eat off dancehall suffer. When you lock off dancehall and those things you’re killing dancehall and your killing the culture of the country.”

These days Mavado spend most of his time in the U.S. touring and recording new material. The Gullyside singjay is also signed to Cash Money Records.

Dancehall music has seen a resurgence in recent years with several hip-hop artists doing crossover danceall singles.

Rap legend Snoop Dogg, now Snoop Lion, has also made a full transformation from hip-hop to reggae with a full length reggae album.

The Noise Abatement Act in Jamaica has been one of the most controversial law imposed on dancehall in recent history.

Sound off below.

  1. If people hate the noise they should move uptown.

  2. Killing off Dancehall would be the best thing that ignorant government can do for Jamaica!

  3. Sharon 'Shazz' Nembhard

and it is time those who don’t work 9-5 or go to school respect those that others do. Everybody “can’t eat a food” off dancehall. Others want to earn an education to achieve more than that and we are not creatures of the night. Full time for dancehall supporters to balance the thing!

  4. I would hope the Jamaican authorities do not have the goal of changing what greatly benefits the islands. at a time where the value of dollar drops every day and those of the Prime Minister’s office drive around in expensive cars.. they should be striving to reignite the reggae roots vibe that is part of Jamaica culture’s.

I hope this is something that the Jamaican government thinks twice about and changing the laws that everyone will see as the best option towards solving this.

  5. reggae should not be change. reggae message to the universe to awake the people who are lost and brain wash.blessing.

  6. Reggae is a great music come from almighty God , even Michael Jackson mix his music with reggae , so that his music can be powerful. what have they give back to these people in jamaica Africa Decentant.babylon trying to change reggae to mix with hip hip because hip hop not on top any more. reggae never die.every music belong to the creator of all creation.
