Lauryn Hill’s Settles Her Tax Debt Just Before Sentencing

This is some good news for Lauryn Hill’s massive fan base.

Lauryn Hill’s lawyer, Nathan Hochman, told Reuters that she has paid off over $900,000 in taxes owed to both the IRS and the State of New Jersey.

“Ms. Hill has not only now fully paid prior to sentencing her taxes, which are part of her criminal restitution, but she has additionally fully paid her federal and state personal taxes for the entire period under examination through 2009,” Hochman said in an e-mail.

Lauryn Hill, who was facing years in prison on tax fraud charges, was given two additional weeks to clear up her debt.

Last month she angered the judge after failing to deliver on her prison to settle her tax debt. However, she can now breathe a sigh of relief after settling the debt at last minute.

Her lawyer says she raised the money through loans secured by real estate and also a new deal with Sony Music that will see her releasing new music and a new album.

Last week Lauryn Hill surprised her fans with a new single “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix).”
