Dancehall veteran Beenie Man will miss today’s special performance on BET’s 106 & Park with Nicki Minaj due to visa restrictions.
The Grammy-winning deejay, who collaborate with the Trinidadian rapper on a track called “Gun Shot” off her new album, was schedule to perform on the show later today, but was forced to withdraw at last minute.
“Gun Shot” appeared on Nicki Minaj sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
Beenie Man’s publicist Claude Mills told the Jamaica Obsever that his performance on the network would be in violation of his visiting visa, since he would be paid royalty.
“If he had gone ahead and performed on 106 and Park, it would have been a clear violation of his visa,” Mills said.
“Whenever you do a live performance on BET or MTV, you are paid a performance royalty and that would be deemed work,” Mills added.
Beenie Man manager Blue Smith also confirmed the news via a press release yesterday.
“We have been advised that his appearance on BET would be considered as a paid performance because the station has to pay over royalties for live performances, so it would be a clear violation of the terms of his visitor’s visa so we decided to not take the risk and comply with the US Embassy,” Blue said in the release.
Nicki Minaj second album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded hit stores today.
