Weezy F. Baby fell just short of the mammoth million makr in first week sales for his latest album Tha Carter IV.
Final tally from Nielsen SoundScan revealed the Young Money boss ninth studio album moved a whopping 964,000 copies in its opening week. This will debut the album at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
That gives Weezy the second-highest first week sales of the year, behind Lady Gaga’s Born This Way which sold 1.1 million copies in first week.
Tha Carter IV also broke the U.S. iTunes Store’s single-week album sales record by registering around 345,000 downloads, over throwing Jay-Z and Kanye West Watch The Throne.
Weezy thank fans on Twitter for making it happen: “Wow!!!!!!!!!! I have the best fans in the universe! I thank u all. Hard work and dedication pays well. Young Mula baby!(weezy voice),” he tweeted.
Nicki Minaj joined the celebration, adding, “A million here, A million there…Congrats Weezy! YMCMB.”
