The Weeknd Celenbrates “Starboy” Debuting At No. 1 on Billboard 200

The Weeknd is celebrating the success of his new album “Starboy” which debut at No. 1 on Billboard 200 chart this week.

This was predictable given the strong first week sales prediction for the project which was released on November 25. “Starboy” sold 348,000 album equivalent units in the first week of release, with some 231,000 units being pure album sales and the rest from streaming equivalent on Apple Music and Spotify.

This means that “Starboy” is the third highest debut in 2016 behind Beyonce’s “Lemonade” and Drake’s “Views” which has been in the top 10 on the chart for half of the year. This makes the third album released by The Weeknd and his second to debut at the top of the chart following the success of his 2015 LP “Beauty Behind The Madness.” This project saw guest features from Future, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, and Lena Del Rey.

“XO really did that : NUMBER 1 album,” Weeknd tweeted.
