Presiding judge Lennox Campbell in the Vybz Kartel murder trial this morning started his summation of the unsworn statements given by the accused men.
Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams all gave unsworn statements in court last month.

Justice Lennox Campbell told the 11-member jury that the accused men had three choices, to say nothing, to give unsworn statements or to take the witness stand. But they chose to give unsworn statements.
The judge told jurors that if the men had took the witness stand they would have faced cross-examination from the prosecution. However, they should not determine that as an act of guilt.
Justice Campbell says he know that jurors are wondering why the accused men elected to give unsworn statements. He told them that perhaps the men were reluctant to have their evidence go up against the grueling cross-examination from the prosecution.
The judge told the jury to determine if the accused men statements hold any real value to the case and to weigh the prosecution evidence with common sense.
All five men are accused of killing Clive “Lizard” Williams on August 16, 2011 at a house in Havendale. The Crown says he was killed over two missing firearms belonging to Vybz Kartel.
His body has still yet to be found.
