Is Vybz Kartel the “King of Dancehall?”

The incarcerated dancehall superstar, aka King of Dancehall, has been profiled by Fox 5 New York in a segment of their morning program on Tuesday. The new channel is known for featuring dancehall acts on the program, as well as, famous hip-hop superstars from the New York area. Last year we saw Alkaline and Masicka on the program, and today we saw an unlikely face on the program, Vybz Kartel.

“It really is an incredible story,” Fox 5 reporter Lisa Evers said. “For years millions of fans have been chanting the phrase, free “Worl’ Boss” one of the many names for Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel. A court ruling from a three-judge panel and release from prison is expected soon, but lockdown hasn’t kept the King of Dancehall from dropping new music.”

Fox 5 highlight Vlogger couple on Jaradio, Wiz and Shakera, and another popular Vlogger Yeti Boss, who has covered Vybz Kartel extensively. The segment also features some well-known dancehall radio disc jockeys like Hot 97’s Bobby Konders, whose label produced one of Kartel’s latest singles “Pandora” featuring Ili Sanchea.

While it’s becoming of dancehall fans to crown the king of dancehall, at the moment an overwhelming segment of that fan base says Vybz Kartel is the king. The Worl’Boss shared his reaction to Fox 5 profiling his career on Instagram.

“Real talk @fox5ny and as I said in my new single featuring @squash6iixboss, “..every day cant be the same!..” so we still have faith in the justice system and my legal team and hope for a victory,” he wrote.

“One #WorlBoss One #Don One #King … any other king is @burgerking,” Kartel added.

The incarcerated dancehall deejay is currently awaiting the verdict of his appeal case. His legal team has expressed confidence that the dancehall legend will be freed sometime soon.
