Machel Montano Guilty On Assault Charges

Soca king Machel Montano will be doing some jail time after being found guilty on five charges.

Machel Montano and his co-accused Joel ‘Zan’ Feveck, Kernel Roberts, and Rodney ‘Benjai’ LeBlanc appeared in the Port-of-Spain Seventh Court on Monday to answer to charges of four counts of assault and one count of obscene language.

According to police reports, Montano and his co-accused assaulted Brandon Browne, Janelle Lee Chee, and Russell Pollonais during a brawl outside a nightclub in Port-of-Spain in 2007.

Montano and Roberts were found guilty of assaulting Browne and Pollonais. LeBlanc and Feveck were freed of those charges. Montano was also found guilty of assaulting Janelle Lee Chee and Gerard Browne.

Kernel Roberts is the son of Calypso legend Lord Kitchener.

Montano returns to court on January 17 for a sentencing hearing. He could face up to five years behind bars.
