Trinidad native rapper Nicki Minaj is already a platinum selling artist and now she landed the long awaited number one spot on Billboard top 200 albums.
Nicki Minaj debut album Pink Friday outsold Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasies to sell over a million copies in the US. Minaj got the number one spot three months after its release. This news comes a week after her highly-watched SNL performance.
Kanye West sits at 999,000, Talib Kweli’s indie shakedown continues, and Soulja Boy bounces back on the charts. Bruno Mars climbed another spot to #4 with his Doo Wops & Hooligans. Additionally, Mars stepped away from possible jail-time after a cocaine possession arrest last year. Crossing the 600,000 mark, DW&H prompted two number one singles—“Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are.”
When the artist got wind of the new success, she tweeted to her fans, “We finally did it! PINK FRIDAY is the #1 Album in the United States of America!!!!! * faints * thank u soooo much for the continued support.”
