Dubbed Reggae rebellious cousin, dancehall music is not new to the world but is experience a period of increasing popularity.
Media giant CNN recently published a report on the new found fame of dancehall music on the world stage. One notable program that help fueled the popularity of dancehall in 2010 was the Canadian dance show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ which featured an electrifying choreograph of Vybz Kartel hit single “Clarks.”
The CNN report also feature Antiguan dancehall star Skeritt, who rose from the slum into the mainstream as a result of his dancing skills. Skeritt spoke about how he sees social media greatly influencing dancehall worldwide, making it more accessible to the international market.
There is no doubt dancehall music and culture is poised for even greater things in 2011, we just encourage the new generation of artists and producers to put out good music.
